Not Just another NibbleBit Blog
One of my favorite blogs, A Cause des Garçons, posted today about the cover story on diver Alexandre Despatie in the Québecois magazine, L’Actualité. (Both publications are in French, so keep Google Translate at hand if you don’t speak the langauge.)
Calling Despatie ‘Enemy Number One of the Chinese [Divers]‘ (‘L’ennemi numéro un des Chinois’), the magazine wonders if the 23-year-old Despatie can stop the powerful Chinese Olympic diving team now that he has recovered from a fractured foot. “I want to win more than others,” he told the magazine recently, while still on crutches at the Montreal FINA diving Grand Prix in May. “I will be probably more concentrated than if I had not had this injury.”
Towleroad also has some good coverage of Despatie and the L’Actualité article.
Photos of Despatie are everywhere on the Internet. If the subject is diving, you can almost guarantee a photo of him will be included. Images of him have become famous, iconographic. Here are a few of my faves from my collection of him.
Speaking of Michael Phelps….I’ve been looking everywhere for this one.
After seeing some tantalizing lo-rez images in various places from the Michael Phelps-Julianne Moore-Disney-sponsored ‘Little Mermaid’ shoot, I’d been hoping to find a large-scale version of the key image by Annie Leibovitz.
Well, SCAQ found it and posted it back in April. And I’ve posted the PRNewswire-released 1800 x 1191 version SCAQ links to below. (Note: the original release has been deleted from PRNewswire.)
Disney recently hired photographer Annie Leibovitz to realize live-action fantasy moments from their movies, called the ‘Disney Dream Portrait Series.’ Michael Phelps, Rowdy Gaines, Cullen Jones, Janet Evans and Brendan Hansen all became mermen and a mermaid surrounding Julianne Moore as Ariel from ‘The Little Mermaid’ in this now famous photo below.
Other top talent who appeared in this series were Tina Fey, Jenifer Lopez, Jessica Biel, Gisele Bundchen, Mikhail Baryshinikov, Scarlett Johansson, Beyoncé and David Beckham, among others.
Kenneth in the 212 ran a spread of photos from Men’s Journal on Friday of some great photos of Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. I found his post via Tottyworld today. Towleroad also covered this Men’s Journal issue and included a link to the MJ slideshow of outtakes from the article. Ditto for SCAQ (Southern California Aquatics).
I’ve been cataloging more than 200 Michael Phelps photos (and more than 50 Ryan Lochte images). Wet Speedos will be running a series of photo spreads of Olympic swimmers, including Team USA members — including Phelps, of course — in the coming weeks.
Here are the pix that Kenneth in the 212 ran this weekend, plus a few more of Phelps in print. Much more to come.
Australia’s SX Magazine this month feature’s a photo session and interview with Aussie Olympic team diver Matthew Mitcham, who came out with a lot of fanfare in May. Wet Speedos covered his coming out previously in two postings here and here.
This week, two other blogs linked here — A Cause des Garcons and Your Daily Briefs — posted coverage of the SX Magazine story. Your Daily Briefs has also posted a new gallery section of Matthew Mitcham pix. (Check out all the speedo pix they’ve also posted in their galleries.)
Here are the pix from that SX spread.
